When we speak of discipleship and service, many people naturally think of church pulpits, gatherings, and ministries. However, when we look at the life of Jesus, we discover that before He began His public ministry, He spent more than twenty years working as a carpenter in Nazareth. The Scriptures record that people called Him “the carpenter” (Mark 6:3), which shows that Jesus was not only “the carpenter’s son,” but that He Himself labored in the workplace. He built furniture, repaired farming tools, and perhaps even participated in construction. He understood the toil of workers and the realities of business interactions, making His life relatable to ordinary people.

This reminds us that discipleship is not confined within the four walls of a church but extends into the workplace, where we spend eight hours or more each day. Work occupies the majority of our time, and if we cannot live out our faith in the workplace, then our discipleship is incomplete. Jesus Himself spent most of His earthly life in a “workplace,” showing us that spiritual life and work are not separate, but can be integrated.
